Microsoft Outlook Web Apps (OWA) have
been launched in two new versions for iPhone and iPad users. The app
works with the Office 365 subscription and brings additional features
through native integration on the iOS platform.
Steve Chew of the Microsoft Exchange team has stated in a blog post:
“The new apps will provide iPad and iPhone users with exactly the same
email, calendar and contact functionality that they would expect to get
with Outlook Web App in a browser, but with a few additional
capabilities that are only possible with mobile devices.”
Microsoft's Outlook Web App works well
on web browsers but comes with some limitations. The new Outlook Web App
adds better mail organization capabilities with new features like
Conversation View, Categories, Flagging and Mark as Junk. The app offers
easy navigation and has an icon on the bottom left corner that allows
users to easily switch between Mail, Calendar, People and Options. It
has also added some voice commands that you can use by taping and
holding the same icon.
The app allows you to Share Calendars,
schedule meetings through the room finder and has an attendee free/busy
option. It has remote wipe capabilities and users can add separate
passcodes for additional security.
To use the new Outlook Web App you will
need an iPhone 4S or higher and an iPad 2 or higher. The app only works
for iOS 6 or higher. Microsoft has also added that the app will be
available to Exchange Server 2013 customers at a later date. Users can
download the Outlook Web App for iPhone and iPad from the Apple iTunes App store.
