An internationally-spread Orwellian surveillance system uncovered by RT has been linked to a software company that collects the GPS coordinates of cell phone users in over 100 major cities.
The discovery of the TrapWire risk mitigation program last year and its ability to match human faces caught on camera against massive databases of intelligence led to an outcry from privacy advocates around the world. Now once again the burgeoning preponderance of Big Brother is being put into perspective.
In late 2011, members of the loose-knight hacktivist group Anonymous pilfered data from the servers of private intelligence firm Stratfor that were in turn handed over to the whistleblower website WikiLeaks for dissemination. When internal emails alluding to a service called TrapWire surfaced in the leak, an investigation uncovered a program that, according to the company’s founder, “can collect information about people and vehicles that is more accurate than facial recognition.”

(NaturalNews) Beverage giant PepsiCo has once again partnered with Senomyx, the San Diego, Cal.-based chemical company that gained nationwide attention back in 2011 for using aborted human fetal cells to develop flavor chemicals, to create even more flavor chemicals for its products. According to reports, the new “mystery” ingredients are designed to enhance sweetness of Pepsi products with less added sugar, but there is no indication they will be properly identified on product labels.

The purpose of the joint effort is to develop new flavor additives that will make Pepsi products taste sweeter with less sugar and fewer calories. In a 2010 press release, the two companies explain that the goal of their endeavor is to develop and commercialize new “sweet enhancers” and “natural high-potency sweeteners” for the purpose of both improving the taste of Pepsi and satisfying consumer demand for healthier processed food products that contain less refined sugar and processed salt.

But are these new Senomyx flavor chemicals really safe? According to a 2011 article published by CBS News’ MoneyWatch, Senomyx’s proprietary flavor chemicals are actually a type of genetically-modified organism (GMO). Since laboratory scientists develop them by injecting the genetic sequences of the four known taste receptors into cell cultures, some of which come from aborted fetal cell lines, the end product is nothing more than a biotech creation that cannot be found in nature.

Whatever the publicly stated aims of the genetically modified organisms (GMOs) sector, and however terrible its impact is on health, the environment and cotton farmers in India, there is a much more sinister side to this industry. 
In order to govern and control a population, apart from the use of violence, people’s consent must be achieved via what Louis Althusser once called ideological state apparatuses: the education system, entertainment, religion, the political system and so on. Noam Chomsky’s book ‘The Manufacture of Consent’ discusses the important role of the media in this, and Antonio Gramsci wrote much about hegemony – the methods used by the dominant class to legitimize their position in the eyes of the ruled over – a kind of ‘consented coercion’ that disguises the true fist of power.
However, possibly the most basic and arguably effective form of social control is eugenics, a philosophy that includes reduced reproductive capacity of ‘less desired’ people.
There is a growing fear that eugenics is being used for the purpose of population control – to get rid of sections of the world population that are ‘surplus to requirements’. In the West, due to automation and the outsourcing of jobs, there is likely to be a large section of the population that will be permanently unemployed or underemployed. In places like China, Africa and India, promoting birth control has been high on the agenda for some decades.
Millionaire US media baron Ted Turner believes a global population of two billion would be ideal and billionaire Bill Gates has pledged hundreds of millions of dollars to improve access to contraception in the developing world. Based on the misguided premise that the world is getting overpopulated, fewer people means elites and the better off can reduce the competition for the resources they covert so much and maintain their current high levels of material consumption. Gates has also purchased shares in Monsanto valued at more than $23 million. His agenda is to help Monsanto get their genetically modified organisms (GMOs) into Africa on a grand scale.
Here’s where things get interesting. In 2001, Monsanto and Du Pont bought a small biotech company called Epicyte that had created a gene that basically makes the male sperm sterile and the female egg unreceptive. In the US, GM foods are already on the market and unlabeled. The GM sector has spent millions to ensure this remains the case. US citizens thus have no idea of what could be in their food. These foods where not independently tested for their impact on health.

Planned Parenthood was founded on the concept that most human beings are reckless breeders. Gates senior is co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and a guiding light behind the vision and direction of the Gates Foundation, which is heavily focused on promoting GMOs in Africa via its financing of the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA).
The Gates Foundation has given at least $264.5 million to AGRA. According to a report published by La Via Campesina (The Peasants’ Way) in 2010, 70 percent of AGRA’s grantees in Kenya work directly with Monsanto and nearly 80 percent of the Gates Foundation funding is devoted to biotechnology. The report also explains that the Gates Foundation has pledged $880 million to create the Global Agriculture and Food Security Program (GAFSP), which is a heavy promoter of GMOs.
Rather than embrace a move towards genuine food sovereignty and address the underlying political and economic issues that cause poverty, the Gates Foundation has chosen the promotion of corporate-controlled agriculture which has led to the disempowerment of farmers.
As the GM sector continues to hammer at India’s door, we have every right to be concerned, not only because of the much reported impact of seed monopolies and GMOs’ well-documented detrimental effects on health and the environment, but also because of concerns over just which genes may be in the foodstuffs that we eat and are unknown to us.
Researcher F  William Engdahl states that genetic engineering cannot be understood without looking at the global spread of US power. Leading figures in the US financed ‘Green Revolution’ in the agriculture sector of developing countries in order to create new markets for petro-chemical fertilizers and petroleum products, as well as to expand dependency on energy products. Food has now become weaponised to secure global dominance.
The world’s problems are not being caused by overpopulation, but by greed and a system of ownership that ensures wealth flows from bottom to top. It’s not about stopping population growth in its tracks, but about changing a widespread global system and mindset that is based an over reliance on oil and unsustainable depletion of natural resources, with the US being the biggest culprit.
Millionaires like Ted Turner believe it should be a case of carry on consuming regardless, as long as the population is cut. This is the ideology of the rich who regard the rest of humanity as a problem to be ‘dealt with.’ He says there are “too many people using too much stuff.” He couldn’t be more wrong. For instance, developing nations account for more than 80 percent of world population, but consume only about one third of the world’s energy. US citizens constitute 5 percent of the world’s population but consume 24 percent of the world’s energy. On average, one American consumes as much energy as two Japanese, six Mexicans, 13 Chinese, 31 Indians, 128 Bangladeshis, 307 Tanzanians and 370 Ethiopians (mindfully.org)
So, should we be weary of a hugely politically connected sector that has ownership of technology that allows for the genetic engineering of food and a gene that could be used (or already is) for forced sterilization? Of course we should. This is a sector whose stated objective is to control the world’s food chain and, by implication, the global population.
In today’s technologically-driven world, state-corporate concerns are using the full panoply of hi-tech means to control us. Some decades ago, theorist and social philosopher Herbert Marcuse summed up the problem facing modern society by saying that the capabilities— both intellectual and technological— of contemporary society are immeasurably greater than before, which means that the scope of society’s domination over the individual is also immeasurably greater than ever before. It appears none more so than where the GM sector is concerned.

MADRID—Reaching into a stainless steel tray, Francisco Fernandez-Aviles lifted up a gray, rubbery mass the size of a fat fist.
It was a human cadaver heart that had been bathed in industrial detergents until its original cells had been washed away and all that was left was what scientists call the scaffold.
Next, said Dr. Aviles, "We need to make the heart come alive."
Inside a warren of rooms buried in the basement of Gregorio Marañón hospital here, Dr. Aviles and his team are at the sharpest edge of the bioengineering revolution that has turned the science-fiction dream of building replacement parts for the human body into a reality.
Since a laboratory in North Carolina made a bladder in 1996, scientists have built increasingly more complex organs. There have been five windpipe replacements so far. A London researcher, Alex Seifalian, has transplanted lab-grown tear ducts and an artery into patients. He has made an artificial nose he expects to transplant later this year in a man who lost his nose to skin cancer.

"The work has been extraordinarily pioneering," said Sir Roy Calne, an 82-year-old British surgeon who figured out in the 1950s how to use drugs to prevent the body from rejecting transplanted organs.
Now, with the quest to build a heart, researchers are tackling the most complex organ yet. The payoff could be huge, both medically and financially, because so many people around the world are afflicted with heart disease. Researchers see a multi-billion-dollar market developing for heart parts that could repair diseased hearts and clogged arteries.
In additional to the artificial nose, Dr. Seifalian is making cardiovascular body parts. He sees a time when scientists would grow the structures needed for artery bypass procedures instead of taking a vein from another part the body. As part of a clinical trial, Dr. Seifalian plans to transplant a bioengineered coronary artery into a person later this year. His employer, University College London, has designated a person to oversee any future commercialization of it and other man-made organs.

DARPA Sets Out to Make Computers That Can Teach Themselves

The Pentagon’s blue-sky research agency is readying a nearly four-year project to boost artificial intelligence systems by building machines that can teach themselves — while making it easier for ordinary schlubs like us to build them, too.
When Darpa talks about artificial intelligence, it’s not talking about modeling computers after the human brain. That path fell out of favor among computer scientists years ago as a means of creating artificial intelligence; we’d have to understand our own brains first before building a working artificial version of one. But the agency thinks we can build machines that learn and evolve, using algorithms — “probabilistic programming” — to parse through vast amounts of data and select the best of it. After that, the machine learns to repeat the process and do it better.
But building such machines remains really, really hard: The agency calls it “Herculean.” There are scarce development tools, which means “even a team of specially-trained machine learning experts makes only painfully slow progress.” So on April 10, Darpa is inviting scientists to a Virginia conference to brainstorm. What will follow are 46 months of development, along with annual “Summer Schools,” bringing in the scientists together with “potential customers” from the private sector and the government.
Called “Probabilistic Programming for Advanced Machine Learning,” or PPAML, scientists will be asked to figure out how to “enable new applications that are impossible to conceive of using today’s technology,” while making experts in the field “radically more effective,” according to a recent agency announcement. At the same time, Darpa wants to make the machines simpler and easier for non-experts to build machine-learning applications too.

While many area residents and not a few visitors to the area take the industry for granted in believing that the waters can be fished forever, scientists have discovered a major threat to the abilities of many kinds of fish to reproduce.

“Changes in, for example, the external characteristics of males where they start to resemble females,” Dr. Gary Ankley of the U.S. EPA Lab in Duluth, Minn., told the Newscenter.

Dr. Pat Schoff added, of the Natural Resources Research Institute at the University of Minnesota-Duluth: “The small mouth bass and large mouth are sensitive to fish feminization. We’re seeing lots of symptoms in these species.”

How can fish actually change genders? Scientists aren’t sure but they do know that it is a frightening phenomenon that is happening all over the world. Studies show thus far that a feminized male fish can suffer a reproductive disability of at least 76 percent and more; the more researchers look into this, the more they are finding fish that cannot reproduce at all.

The phenomenon has “actually caused some fish populations to go extinct,” said Ankley.

Some of the leading scientific research examining the problem is taking place in Duluth, at UMD’s NRRI, and also at an Environmental Protection Agency lab there. Scientists believe chemicals are behind the fish gender transformation.

“There’s only a few labs in the world that can do this very effectively when we deal with these very potent chemicals,” Ankley said. “There’s a number of chemicals that can act as what we call estrogens.”

Scientists and environmentalists note that there are literally thousands of chemicals that make it into the nation’s streams, rivers and other waterways every day. They include medications, agricultural run-off and other substances that carry very powerful estrogens scientists believe may be altering fish genders.

“We can see everything from testicular tissue that is growing like an ovary. Or some fish have one teste and one ovary,” said Schoff.

“The male testes actually has eggs in it,” Ankley added.

5,000-8,000 different medications could be altering environment



Researchers know when they expose fish in the lab to such powerful estrogen compounds they will see nearly complete transformations from one gender to another, and that such transformation is dramatically harming fish populations.

“There’s lower rates of reproduction or even no reproduction,” Dr. Schoff said.

Scientists say they aren’t sure what other substances and chemicals, besides estrogen, might be contributing to the gender transformations in nature.

“It turns out there are chemicals that can mimic natural estrogens and when you expose males to these chemicals they can start to achieve these female characteristics,” Ankley said. “There’s probably 5,000 to 8,000 different medications that are used and could enter the environment.”

They say even substances as common as Ibuprofen might be contributing to the problem as well.

Text neck can occur in anyone who spends long hours bent over mobile devices.

“We see it as a frequent complaint,” Cornett said, “and I would estimate that more and more people over time, as technology use continues to expand, will experience this kind of discomfort and injuries from text neck.”

Although there’s a cultural idea of young people spending endless hours bent over their phones, Kerry Rodocker-Wiarda, of Kerry’s Chiropractic in Grand Island, Nebraska, says she has actually seen a greater increase in postural pain among older people.

“Even the older adults have the games now on their phones and we’ve seen them coming in,” she said.

Postural pain need not come from electronic devices, Rodocker-Wiarda said, noting that even reading a book at the wrong angle can cause your head and shoulders to pull forward, straining your back and neck muscles.

“If you sit and read a book too long, that is the same position.”

In addition, heavy backpacks combined with poor posture are a common cause of similar problems in children.

“Eventually, your muscles just can’t take it anymore and you can feel the knot at the trigger points where they have tightened up,” she said.

So how can you avoid developing text neck? Cornett suggests three major strategies. First, get in good shape, as a strong neck and back are less prone to strain. Second, make sure you have good posture, with your eyes straight forward, when using electronic devices.

Finally, acknowledge how much time you spend using electronic devices and commit to splitting that up into smaller chunks with regular breaks.

“Just try not to spend so much time on it,” Rodocker-Wiarda said.

2. A super smart keyboard

One of the reasons that the Surface RT feels so much like a laptop is that it doesn’t feel complete without a keyboard attached. Whenever Microsoft demoed it the tablet had the Touch cover (very firmly) attached and they don’t even make a non-keyboard cover for it. So when you take the Surface RT out and you actually want to use it like a tablet with the cover flipped back, what stops you from typing? The keyboard detects that it’s backwards and won’t accept a button press.
Another clever feature is that the space bar doesn’t end where you think it does. Microsoft’s design team noticed that people tend to hit the space key on the bottom edge, which is fine for a standard key, but doesn’t cut it for a no-movement one, like that used on the Touch cover. Their solution was to extend the useable range of the key below where it normally would be.

3. Hidden, but accessible microSD slot

Much like a metal kangaroo pouch, the Surface’s kickstand has a bunch of storage hidden behind it. On the right side of the tablet, behind the kickstand cover, is a microSD slot that can take in up to 64GB of storage. It’s easy to access, but even easier to just put a card in once and forget about it forever — you still have a USB slot so it’s more like permanent expansion than it is removable storage.
With the price of a 64GB microSD card you can get the Surface RT up to 128GB of storage. That’s a lot of music, movies, Office docs, and apps… at least once there are some apps worth downloading in the Windows store.

4. Angled camera

If you do much reading about the Surface RT you’ll notice the term “22 degrees” come up a lot. Microsoft was quite impressed that they figured out that a 22 degree angle would allow the rear-facing webcam to work normally while the tablet was tilted into kickstand mode. Of course Microsoft didn’t angle the forward-facing cam so if you want to do a video conference the cam is pointed uncomfortably at your chest, but at least your companion will have a great view of the room you’re in.

Microsoft must have identified one of the iPad’s weakness: the magnetic connector that holds on the smart cover (or any cover for that matter) isn’t strong enough. If you grab the iPad by the cover alone you’re liable to be stuck holding the cover a nothing else, but that’s not the case with the Touch and Type covers. These aren’t as easy to attach to the tablet, but they won’t come off unless you really, really want them to. The power connection is magnetic as well, and while it’s annoyingly tricky to get connected, it has quite a strong connection as well.
